Traveling with a Dog – Fun or a Struggle?

The saying that “dog is the most loyal friend a human can have” is well known, and everyone who owns one is convinced about this fact. Every time you feel blue and need someone to console you, the dog is there looking you with their eyes full of love trying to say that everything will be fine.

After a long, stressful day at work, they’re there waiting to give you a big hug and remind you how important you are to them.  This is all true, that’s why you want to have it with you wherever you go.  Whether you’re traveling for leisure or traveling purposes, the mutual desire to spend your free time together is unquestionable.

However, besides the pleasure of having your pet with you, and not having to worry about leaving them behind without your care, sometimes it can be pretty hard. Especially if you’re not traveling in your own car.

One thing we know for sure is that they are very adventurous and open to exploring new places together with you. Despite this beautiful fact, many things need to be thought of carefully because not all sites are dog-friendly. For example, your dog can belong to a breed that cannot be adapted in cold places or vice versa. So, you have to consider these things before you take a trip with your best friend!

What to Consider When Traveling with a Dog?

Traveling Regulations

Depending on the traveling means, whether by plane, car, train, or any other way, as well as the destination you’re headed to, you need to make sure that all you’re meeting traveling regulations. If you’re going abroad, in most cases you’ll need to get an International Air Transportation travel crate for your dog. The crate needs to be approved to make sure that it meets all the safety and comfort standards for your pet.

Most of the cases they’ll need to travel in the undercarriage, of course, when you’re traveling by airplane, train-ferry, or a boat. Because of their weight and size, it’s impossible to take them as a hand carriage. However, ventilation, air pressure, and temperatures are the same as in our cabins. The crates are big enough to allow the dog to move, lay, eat, drink, and be comfortable.

If you’re traveling with your own automobile, it will be much easier, both for you and your dog. It’ll be close to you all the time and you’ll have plenty of time to relax during the trip.

Vet-Control

Before you head for a journey with your dog, you need to plan ahead a vet control to make sure that it is in perfect health for traveling. Most of the airlines that are pet-friendly require a health certificate signed by your vet in order to allow you to take it with you.

Even if you do not need that certificate, it’s best that you make a complete checkout just to make sure that your trip will be an enjoyable experience rather than floundering with your sick friend.

Another important thing you need to consider is to prepare your dog for the travel, especially if it’s the first time taking it with you. At the end of the day, you want it to have fun too. If you decide to put it in a crate, make sure that it’ll get entertained during the trip. Put toys, treats, and make sure everything will be okay!

Think about their food. Make quick research to check out what kind of dog food brands are available in the place of destination. Otherwise, make sure to pack enough so that your dog’s needs are fully satisfied!

Accommodation

Have you ever heard about hotels for dogs? I bet you have. At least you’re familiar with “pet-friendly hotels”. Before booking your stay, make sure to look for pet-friendly hotels that allow you to take your dog with you and have special places where their needs can be met. They need a place to play, sleep, and get comfortable.

If you’re a luxury lover and want to give your pet a real treat, choose a hotel with special doggie services and daycare. There are many fancy commodities for dogs too, such as special dog beds, pillows, spas, cleaning services, and so on.

At the end of the day, you want the best for you and your dog. Sometimes it can be hard, but, in most cases a lot of fun for sure!
